The former soccer player of the Colombian National Team who now lives in poverty

Colombian journalist Jaime Dinas shared a 21-second recording about the sudra situation in which the former Colombian national team soccer player finds himself, Henry Viafara.

(Read: Agenda of books: the disguise of ‘poor’ not to pay taxes).

In the publication, a homeless person is seen wandering the streets. Dinas explained that it would be Viáfara, who played with the America of Cali three Copa Libertadores finals and was also part of the Colombian National Team in the 1980s.

A pity to record this information, with a soccer player that I interviewed and shared at the time (sic). Strength to his family and may the ‘Almighty’ give him the opportunity to get out of that darkness in which he finds himself and in which we must join forces to get him outDinah pointed out.

Later, the journalist assured that the ex-soccer player’s youngest daughter had contacted him to unpublish the video and that in the company of Councilman Roberto Ortiz they would start a campaign to “recover a human being who deserves a chance at life.”

Without being clear about whether the man in the footage was indeed Viáfara, the truth is that the former soccer player has been for several years suffering from financial difficulties and health. In fact, some Internet users have expressed that the old glory of national soccer lives in the municipality of Dosquebradas, Risaralda, in a state of destitution.

In 2014, Viáfara said in an interview with El País de Cali that he was going through a complicated situation and depended on the support of the people.

“For a few years I have been living with my mother in Villarrica, but everything fell apart when I separated from my wife. There were many disappointments and later, with bad luck, I fell into drug addiction. That was the final point. Later, when I retired from football, there came a time when I had too much time left over, I had nothing to do and I was already going to a farm, somewhere else, with friends, the rumba… From a person who was judicious to get to being lazy later, anyone goes crazy. When I realized everything, I was already deep in vice, there was nothing to do, “he said at the time.

At that time he was living in Puerto Tejada, Cauca: “I walk the streets up and down. Sometimes I collaborate with the Notary with some laps and he gives me food. I also search unloading the soda carts,” he said.

Now, according to Dinas, Viáfara has already been contacted by municipal authorities. So far, no further details of his situation have been known. It is only hoped that he will receive the necessary help.
