During this morning the first rainfall fell in the central area of the country, for a weekend where significant rains are expected. Experts predicted that today will be the first day of rainfall, while thunder and lightning were recorded in some sectors of the capital.
The most intense rains were felt in the O’Higgins region. Various records on social networks reported the significant rain that fell during the early hours, but not in Santiago, where it concentrated only for a few minutes, reaching the southern part of the capital in the first instance.

According to the Meteorological Directorate of Chile, the rains will continue in Santiago from the night of Thursday 21 to Saturday 23 April, especially in the Andean and foothills.
During this Thursday, Onemi declared Preventive Early Warning for the districts of Colina, Vitacura, Las Condes, La Reina, Lo Barnechea, Peñalolén, La Florida, Puente Alto, San José de Maipo and Pirque.

“Updating this alert (early preventive), is constituted as a state of reinforcement of vigilance, through precise and rigorous monitoring of risk conditions and the respective vulnerabilities associated with the threat, coordinating and activating the National Prevention System. and Response to Disasters (SINAPRED) in order to act in a timely manner in the face of possible emergency situations”, they indicated from Onemi.
The regional government activated an action plan for this bad weather front, where possible earth movements and alluviums in the Andean sector were warned, while eventual power cuts were not ruled out either.
