The first Assembly of the Alteñidad, which will take place this Saturday in the city of El Alto, will address at least six problems that affect the second most populous municipality in the country. Among them, the issue of the 2022 census, the administration of tolls and citizen insecurity.
“Assembly of the Alteñidad 2022, with unity and harmony to outline the city of El Alto that we want for all”, Mayor Eva Copa posted yesterday calling the meeting of this day from 9:00 in the stadium in the area of Villa Ingenio.
The president of the Federation of Neighborhood Councils (Fejuve) of El Alto, Fernando Rivero, informed Página Siete that practically everything is ready for the assembly, in which the main topics will be the carrying out of the 2022 census and all the issues related to the social, political and economic development.
“We will work on issues of health, education and citizen security. We will also touch on the issue of limits, especially with a view to the next Population and Housing Census”, stated Rivero.
Toll Resources
Another of the important issues that the Assembly of the Alteñidad will address will be the administration of the tolls located in the jurisdiction of El Alto, reported the mayor Copa. The objective is that the economic income generated by the use of roads reaches the municipality .
“Unfortunately we cannot reach an agreement with the ABC (Bolivian Highway Administration), we were making precisely that evaluation. These roads are interdepartmental-international and we do not get a single peso from the tolls that occur in these places,” Copa protested.
In the city of El Alto there are at least four entrance tolls, among them are the one on the road to Laja, Viacha, Oruro and Copacabana.
In this context, Copa stressed that there is an urgent need to consolidate the Assembly of the Alteñidad to inform the population of the situation of the municipality of El Alto in terms of its economy or what are the setbacks that have been experienced in the attention to citizens in their basic needs.
How was the initiative born?
The initiative emerged in April after the last meeting of the Municipal Emergency Operations Committee (COEM) on April 25. On that occasion, the El Alto organizations, including municipal authorities, Fejuves, the Central Obrera Departamental, trade unions, carriers, the Single Trade Union Federation of Agrarian Communities of Urban and Suburban Radio of El Alto (Fesucarusu), the Federation of Micro and Small Enterprises of El Alto, Federation of Teachers, among others, formed the Promotion Committee of the Census and the Development Plan of the Municipality of El Alto, which in turn is constituted in the organized entity of the Alteñidad Assembly.
However, one of the parallel Fejuves rejected the meeting and called it political.
