The first actor Ignacio López Tarso, one of the myths of Mexican cinema, TV and theater, passed away this Saturday. “I became an actor to be in the theater because when he was studying there was still no television in Mexico. Already in 1950 I entered the small screen and met Don Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta, a man of great drive and visionary ”, he once said.
López Tarso was twice awarded the Golden Gate Award for Best Actor, the first time for his work in the paper man (1963), by Ismael Rodríguez, and the second by Macario (1960), by Roberto Gavaldón.
He was the winner of the Best Performance Award in 1973 for White Rose. the prophet mimi (1974) and Rapine (1975) were nominated for best performance. In 2007 he obtained the Ariel de Oro for film career and was awarded for his work in various soap operas. He received the National Award for Arts and Sciences in 2015.
Today, Sunday, March 12, at 7 pm, a tribute will be paid to him at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
In 2003 he was in Cuba with Carmen Montejo to play the leading roles in Love letters, a Mexican version of the homonymous work by AR Gurney. Born in Pinar del Río, Carmen Montejo arrived in Mexico in the 1940s and began to shine in that nation along with her compatriots Ninón Sevilla and Rosa Carmina, among others.
At 98 years old, he never stopped working. A few months before being hospitalized, he was involved in projects and acting.
