The fire that destroyed the home of a poor family

For more than 16 years, loneliness kings and her husband Jose Tancredo de los Santos they worked hard to have, even if it is the minimum for their family composed of four children. Through effort, they managed to buy a stove, beds, furniture, a television, and they had the basics to live in their little house with a roof of wood and zinc, but on the afternoon of Sunday, April 24, a fire he wiped out everything they had.

It was 1:15 in the afternoon when the house caught fire in the capital’s neighborhood The antenna from Deep Creek, just where it joins Cristo Rey, supposedly due to a short circuit. The six members of the family they were not, some in the church, because it is a family evangelical, and when they found out they ran in terror to what was their home that day, but it was too late.

The impact was so great for Soledad, that when she saw what was left of her house she fainted and did not hear from her until some time later, she could not believe that what she had fought for with her husband all her life had been extinguished in so little time.

“I was in the Church with the children and my husband took the man to work, they called me when the service was over and they told me that it was on fire, I fainted, of course I did not know anything else when I saw all our effort destroyed ”, narrates.

The panorama was bleak, the metal structure of the stove, the springs and tubes of the beds and a lot of burned material were left standing, including all the clothes and the sadness of what was a space of harmony, love and prayer. .

Of all, there was something that did not burn, that remained practically intact: a bible. Only the edges were burned, but the texts remained intact and it was the only thing they could save, after the flames destroyed everything inside the living place. A neighbor kept it and in the small neighborhood called La Antena, where only 28 families live, most of them evangelical Christians, that was a miracle.

Despite being left with nothing, Soledad does not feel alone, her faith in God has given her strength along with her children and husband to discern and remember the biblical expression that “God will provide”. Now they are closer than ever, although they are not so close. Part of her children live with an aunt and the other part in Soledad’s father’s house.

In the neighborhood, people lament what happened and affirm that they tried to save some things from the living placebut fire it was so fast that there was no time.

Escarlet de los Santo, the 13-year-old daughter, says that when she found out that her house had burned down she felt a great sadness: “I felt that the world was falling on me because my parents made so many efforts to be well and look”, he says as he moves his eyes around his house of which only the wall and a jumble of metals remain.

At the end of the interview, Escalet whispered something to her sister and since she knew where everything was in her house, she went with some joy to a point in the living place and he took something out of a backpack, opened it slowly, but all at once his countenance faded.

“It was burned!…but see if it wasn’t all,” her older sister told her, “but she, after checking it well, threw the little bag back into the rubble and when she asked the mother what it was, she said: “they were hers. savings, 900 pesos that I had there”.

The eldest daughter, Nathaly de Los Santos, 15 years old, narrates that since she found out what happened in her house her nerves attacked and corroborates with her 13-year-old sister that everything was the product of the great sacrifice made by her parents in years and there was nothing left.

He said he was in shock and only managed to ask his mother, now where are we going to live? Without finding an immediate response from her mother. she requests help to have a home again and in the midst of the difficult situation in which he lives, he thanks God because everyone has life.

“It is a very difficult situation, but how true it has been that God has given us the strength to continue, not to despair, to hope in God and those that people, those who come out of their hearts and believe that they can help us,” he said. .
