The explosion of an unknown “device” in the rural area bordering the municipalities of Marianao and Playa, in Havana, caused a forest fire around 4:00 p.m. this Saturday. There were no fatalities or injuries, only “structural” damage, according to the version spread by the official press, in some homes and a school.
It was the residents of the place who warned about “a strong explosion” that was felt in several areas to the west of Havana. The pro-government reporter Lázaro Manuel Alonso moved quickly to the place, where the firefighters had already controlled the fire “in the undergrowth.”
Minutes later statedboth in a transmission and in a small note, that the authorities were still investigating “what would be the device that exploded” and to which the profile of Facebook Bomberos Cubanos relates to “arms magazines” that the Armed Forces have in that area.
Alonso interviewed the mayor of Mariano, Yamira Lamadrid Pérez, who detailed the “minor damage” that occurred in several houses, and that affected “sales and doors” of the buildings. The reporter assured that, since it was Saturday, “the children were not at school,” but admitted that the “medical emergency system” was present in the area, along with members of the Ministry of the Interior and the Armed Forces.
The Cuban Firefighters profile denounced that the 7th command of the Havana firefighters went first to the place, and upon seeing the magnitude of the fire, requested help, but “did not receive a response.”
“It is an area with a lot of vegetation,” said Alonso, who recorded and photographed the land where the fire had occurred, although he avoided focusing on the most affected areas. “They are still investigating the causes of the explosion,” he insisted, being deliberately ambiguous. Later, he even inverted the facts and assessed that perhaps the fire had caused the explosion, and not the other way around.
“Due to the intense droughts in the area, fires are recurrent,” he said, a few seconds before cutting the recording. “Firefighters have been doing work in the area to prevent the spread. It is already controlled,” she settled.
The Cuban Firefighters profile denounced that the 7th Havana fire command went to the scene first, and upon seeing the magnitude of the fire requested help, but “received no response” for 35 minutes. The delay, they say, caused the command car to be damaged and the firefighters “with hearing problems.”
Comparing the delay of the central command with the inefficiency of the explosion at the Supertanker Base in Matanzas, the profile called for adequate “techniques and material” for Cuban firefighters, and pointed out the irresponsibility of keeping the alleged “powder keg” close to the civilian population. . Finally, they reported that the members of Commando 7 were receiving medical attention at the Carlos J. Finlay Hospital in Havana. None of these data are reported in the official version.
At dawn this Saturday there was also a fire in Centro Habana, in the streets of San José and Espada. In the accident, two people died and three were injured. In contrast to the speed of reporting on the explosion in Marianao, the official press has not been pronounced yet about this event. This newspaper verified that, the next morning, the area was under heavy police surveillance.
