The “Cossio Method” promised buyers to achieve “financial freedom” in a short period, even suggesting that it was possible to recover the initial investment with the publication of a single video. However, the SIC determined that these statements lacked sustenance and constituted a misleading strategy to attract consumers.
The sanction imposed by the SIC not only represents an economic measure, but also establishes a precedent in the regulation of social networks advertising in Colombia. The entity emphasized that public figures must be transparent and truthful in their promotions, avoiding error inducing their followers.
So far, Yeferson Cossio has not issued an official pronouncement regarding the sanction. However, the SIC resolution underlines the importance of digital influencers complying with consumer protection regulations and are responsible in the information they share on their platforms.
This case highlights the growing surveillance of Colombian authorities on the activities of influencers in social networks, especially with regard to the promotion of products or services that may affect the rights of consumers.
