Nedel García Pacheco, father of Andy García Lorenzo, one of the 11J prisoners in Santa Clara, was stabbed this Friday in that city. The incident occurred around 5:45 this morning, on the shore of a dam, where García Pacheco, 48, was fishing with several friends and work colleagues.
“Then this man appeared, who is called El Kiko and lives near our house, but we had never had a previous incident with him,” he tells 14ymedio Roxana García, daughter of the wounded man.
“The man started shouting insults at my brother and said that he deserved to be sentenced to 30 years and to have a series of negative things happen to him in prison,” Garcia says. “My father, of course, started defending Andy, and then the man came at him with a knife and intended to stab him squarely in the heart.”
Nedel García defended himself and received a wound to the hand with which he was trying to stop the knife and another to the left area of his back. “My father’s friends helped separate them.” When the relatives found out, they immediately went to the Arnaldo Milián Castro hospital.

When they got ready to file a complaint for the assault, the problems began. “The policeman who was in the guardhouse told us that no, that had to be done in a police station.” When they arrived at this place, “with evidence and photos of how my father was, as expected, they called us out saying that these types of complaints had to be made at the hospital.”
Finally, the guard body police agreed to write the complaint “against that individual, who is a little over 40 years old and who has a criminal record, he has even been in prison,” explains the daughter. “I hope that justice is done in this case, because that is why the law should be here, although they have used it to repress my family.”
According to the doctors, Nedel García Pacheco will be transferred to a hospital room where he will have to remain until the seriousness of his injuries is determined and the time for discharge can be known. “We still don’t know if there is any compromised organ, but the suture has been delayed because there was no medical material to do it,” Roxana details.
“Nobody explains the reason for this aggression, because my father never had problems with that individual or with anyone,” adds the young woman. “He has no enemies and his friends have been very supportive of my brother’s cause. This was an act of utter provocation.”
They accuse State Security, “because in case it is not directly to blame, it is indirectly to blame, for all the hatred it has sown through the media against the July 11 protesters.”

Andy García Lorenzo was prosecuted last January in Santa Clara, along with 15 other protesters. that came out on July 11 to the streets. Since he was detained, his family has been one of the most active in defending political prisoners and freedom of expression, and he has repeatedly denounced the harassment of State Security to which she is subjected.
On January 19, they sent a letter to the Governor of Villa Clara, Alberto López Díaz, to denounce the “damages and losses” that the “systematic harassment” to which they are being subjected is causing them.
Signed by Roxana García Lorenzo, Andy’s sister, his partner, Jonatán López Alonso, and his parents, Pedro Osvaldo López Mesa and Yenia Alonso Melgarejo, the letter, to which he had access 14ymedio, It said that it was based on the “right to complain” enshrined in article 61 of the Constitution “and as a preliminary step in the event of a possible lawsuit and subsequent access to competent human rights organizations.”
Days before, Roxana García signed a letter, sent by the Cuban Prisoners Defenders (CPD) organization to 32 diplomatic delegations present on the Island, in which he denounced that his brother, “detained under forced disappearance” and “convicted of conscience”, has been subjected to “torture, beatings, threats of up to 30 years in prison and to be shot if he does not retract his position of conscience”.
