MADRID, Spain.- Cuban activist Rosa María Payá sent a message to the Venezuelan people a few days before the elections in Venezuela, scheduled for July 28. Through the social network XPayá expressed his solidarity and hope for Venezuelans at a crucial moment for the country, marked by accusations of corruption and violence by the Nicolás Maduro regime; and a deep economic and humanitarian crisis that the people are suffering.
“The decision, the will for change of an entire people is much stronger than the arrogance of the regime in Caracas and its leaders in Havana,” said the leader of the Cuba Decide Platform on Thursday.
Rosa María Payá, daughter of the deceased Cuban opposition leader Oswaldo Payaassassinated by the Castro regime, highlighted the historic importance of the elections for the future of Venezuela and the entire region.
“We have a message of encouragement and hope for all Venezuelans, because this July 28 you have a historic opportunity, because the faith of the entire continent, including the Cubans, is with you,” he said.
Payá went on to stress that the victory of freedom in Venezuela would pave the way for the liberation of other countries under authoritarian regimes in the hemisphere, such as Nicaragua and Cuba.
He also highlighted the strength of the Venezuelan people to end the dictatorship and move towards prosperity and peace in democracy. He also underlined the crucial role of opposition leader María Corina Machado, describing her as “courage dressed as a woman.”
Maria Corina Machado, who has been intimidated by the regime, including an attempt on her life, has also expressed optimism about the future of Venezuela, saying that unity and social mobilization are key to a definitive change.
This week, in an interview with CNN, María Corina Machado, a supporter of the main opposition candidate Edmundo González, said that Nicolás Maduro has lost all credibility and only violence remains for him to stay in power.
“Maduro has made violence his campaign, it is the only thing he has left, that is to say, his support base has completely dissolved for months now and even middle-level cadres and factions are beginning to fracture and continue to insist on this type of practice that rather generates a total rejection from the population, nobody believes them anymore,” he said in this regard.
With two days to go before Venezuelans go to the polls, opinion polls reveal that the opposition has an unprecedented lead over Nicolás Maduro. The most recent polls show a clear advantage for the opposition. Edmundo Gonzalez.
