More details are becoming known about the fatal traffic accident on the San Agustín – Pitalito road (Huila), where a bus heading towards the department of Putumayo had a mechanical failure and crashed, leaving 8 people dead and more than 20 injured.

More than 20 people were injured and 8 died in a traffic accident in which a bus, which was traveling on the roads of southern Huila, lost its brakes. According to the first versions of the authorities, the vehicle was going on a family trip to Puerto Asís, Putumayo, when the accident occurred.

The accident occurred during the early hours of the morning, when the Transandina company bus was heading towards Putumayo with at least 40 people.
According to initial reports, the vehicle suffered a mechanical failure after losing its brakes and ended up crashing on a sharp curve near the Sombrerillos bridge.
At least six people died at the scene, including children between the ages of two and three. More than 20 passengers were also injured.
In the last few hours, photographs have been released of the victims who were travelling on the bus, most of them from the same family.
According to local media, the death toll has risen to eight people and has been identified as Giovanny Garzón Delgado, Nelly López, Viviana Muñoz, María Carlina Urbano Muñoz, Emily Violeta Díaz Muñoz, 2 years old, Ricardo Erazo Garzón, 3 years old, and Katherine Julissa Lozano, 7 years old.
María Carlina Urbano, her daughter, Viviana Muñoz, and her granddaughter, little Emily Violeta, also lost their lives.
Blood donation for the wounded
The 33 injured people are receiving medical attention at the Arsenio Repizo Hospital in San Agustín and the San Antonio Departmental Hospital in Pitalito. Due to the severity of the injuries, the medical centers requested support from the community to donate blood.
In particular, a call was made for donors of any type of blood to come to the Pitalito Hospital.
At this time, the police have reported that investigations will focus on determining the causes of the accident and establishing whether there was a mechanical failure in the vehicle or if it was due to external factors.
The road between Pitalito and San Agustín, which was closed during the emergency, was partially reopened for vehicular traffic, authorities confirmed.
