The export of medical devices, which in 2022 reached US$2,276 million, is the fastest growing economic activity in the Dominican Republic.
This, in the opinion of Rafael Piantini, human resources manager of the PIISA Industrial Park, and José Manuel Torres, executive vice president of the Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona). The executives made the statement when participating in the sixth graduation of the Medical Devices Concentration of the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (Intec), which the university has taught since 2017 and has delivered 259 accredited professionals in the validation of processes in that industry.
Torres affirmed that the generation of medical devices in free zones is one of the areas with the greatest labor demand, therefore it requires trained professionals with adaptation skills to face the changes that are taking place within the sector.
“We are talking about more than thirty thousand five hundred direct jobs that these companies are generating and it is definitely the line or productive activity with the greatest potential for growth and the greatest opportunity,” said the executive vice president of Adozona.
Meanwhile, Piantini urged students to continue preparing, while motivating them to apply to PIISA companies. “A good academy doesn’t prepare the way for the students, it prepares the student for the way,” he emphasized.
