The exodus of Cuban baseball prospects is unstoppable

Béisbol

MADRID, Spain.- Another Cuban baseball prospect left Cuba in recent days. This is the outfielder Crisptohfer Pérez, who joined the Cuba team in lower categories. The news was spread by the sports journalist Francys Romero through Twitter.

The 18-year-old emigrated to the Dominican Republic and will try to sign with a Major League Baseball (MLB) team. Romero explained in this regard that Pérez will go through a new training process in Quisqueya until his free agency arrives and he is eligible to sign with an MLB organization.

He also recalled that the Pinar del Río was the starting right fielder in the U-15 World Cup that took place in Panama in 2018.

In the current Cuban Youth Championship in 2022, he was the leader in hits for his Pinar del Río team and batted .387.

“He has a lot of skills with his bat, contact, he’s fast and he also has the gift of being able to shoot with both hands on defense. Pérez can throw the same left to the right with the same intensity, ” said Romero on his talent.

According to the journalist’s considerations, among the factors that have influenced the recent flight of prospects, is the decision of the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) not to participate in the U-18 World Cup in Bradenton-Sarasota next September.

The tournament will be held in South Florida. “Presumably”, the fear that the Cuban baseball players would not return to the Island was the reason why the Cuban authorities decided not to participate.
