Josep Borrell pointed out that the 27 Member States of the European Union are trying to establish a position on the ruling of the Electoral Chamber of the TSJ and announced that, if this is not achieved this Friday, the position will be determined in the Council of Ministers next week.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, insisted this Friday, August 23, that the bloc will not recognize the victory of President Nicolás Maduro, which was ratified by the TSJ, until the data broken down by tables and voting centers is published and verified.
This is what Borrell said to several media outlets after the ruling issued on Thursday, August 22, by the Electoral Chamber of the Judiciary. The High Representative pointed out that everyone must be able to review and verify the results of the elections and that, after almost a month of the process being carried out, the information is still unknown. In this regard, the official said that “we have lost hope that it will happen.”
He said that the 27 Member States of the European Union are currently trying to establish a position on the ruling of the Electoral Chamber of the TSJ and announced that, if this is not achieved by Friday, the position will be determined by the Council of Ministers next week.
“We continue to say that this election result must be proven, and so far we have not seen any proof. No one has seen the electoral records, which the National Electoral Council must show to prove what this result is, and until we see a verifiable result, we will not recognize it,” he stressed.

On the other hand, Spain has already defined its position regarding the elections in Venezuela and agrees with that of the European Union, through Borrell, where they will not recognize Maduro’s victory until all the minutes are published in a “complete and verifiable” manner.
Sources from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the position expressed “from the very beginning” by the Spanish Government headed by Pedro Sánchez, which insists on demanding “full transparency” as pointed out by the panel of United Nations experts and as “is usual in all democracies.”
“Until this happens, we will not be able to recognise the result of the elections,” the Foreign Ministry stressed.
He also called for respect for the right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression, while stressing that they continue to work with their partners in Latin America to find a solution through dialogue and negotiations. He stressed the importance of stopping arbitrary detentions and respecting the will of the Venezuelan people.
