The EU will finance digital transformation and green transition projects in Patagonia

The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell Fontelles, presented in Bariloche a financing line for a total of 6,136,000 euros for digital transformation and “green” transition projects in Argentina.

According to what was reported in a statement by the EU, part of the funds will be specifically allocated to projects implemented in the Patagonian region.


During his participation in the launch event, Josep Borrell Fontelles stressed that “the EU is committed to supporting civil society and human rights through specific projects. Today we are launching new financing in the areas of green and digital transitions, with an emphasis on promoting social cohesion in Argentina.”

“The EU and Argentina have historical ties between their societies. Together we can strengthen cooperation between our companies, universities, governmental and non-governmental organizations”he added.

Project financing

The financing will have two lots. The first, which will be for a total of €4,481,000, will give priority to biodiversity projects; fair and inclusive energy transition; sustainable waste management; and sustainable agriculture. For each initiative, the minimum financing will be €620,000 and the maximum €640,000.

On the other hand, lot 2 will prioritize proposals aimed at “eliminate the digital divide and promote access and protection of digital rights; and promote open government and data governance”. For each initiative, there will be a minimum funding of €540,000 and a maximum of €550,000.

The deadline to receive proposals in the form of synthesis documents will remain open until December 28, 2022.
