The two gas pipelines that connect Russia with Germany are leaking. The Germans describe this as an attack, while the European Union (EU) says that this is not a coincidence and assures that there are indications that they were a “deliberate act”.
This was stated by Josep Borrell, head of European diplomacy, who also stated that ‘The European Union “is deeply concerned” about the damage to the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines that have caused leaks into the international waters of the Baltic Sea, and advanced a “solid and united” response to the action, described as sabotage by European capitals, “reports the newspaper El País.
Borrell added that the European Union will support “any investigation that aims to fully clarify what happened and its motivation.”
On the other hand, “the Kremlin describes as “stupid and absurd” to accuse Russia of being behind the leaks detected in the Nord Stream gas pipelines caused by explosions under the sea”, highlights the AFP.
Meanwhile, “the US president is obliged to answer the question of whether the United States carried out its threat” that it would “end” the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline if Moscow intervened militarily in Ukraine, launches the spokeswoman for Russian diplomacy Maria Zajárova », adds AFP.
On the other hand, Radek Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, wrote on his Twitter account: “Thank you, United States”, attributing the alleged attack to the North American country.
“By the way, there is no shortage of pipeline capacity to bring gas from Russia to Western Europe, including Germany. Nordstream’s only logic was that Putin could blackmail or wage war in Eastern Europe with impunity,” Sikorski adds in another Tweet.
“All Ukrainian and Baltic Sea states have opposed the construction of Nordstream for 20 years. Now, $20 billion in scrap metal lies at the bottom of the sea, yet another cost to Russia of its criminal decision to invade Ukraine. Someone, @MFA_Russia did a special maintenance operation, “concluded the politician.
