The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia confirmed on Sunday the sudden death of its ambassador to Cuba, Ayele Lire Jijamo.
According to a note published by Latin press, The diplomat played an important role in strengthening the links between Addis Abeba and Havana.
Before arriving on the island, Jijamo represented his country in Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, San Vicente and Las Granada, San Cristóbal and Nieves and Bahamas.
From Havana he actively worked in the promotion of cooperation Between both countries, relations that on July 18 fulfilled 50 uninterrupted years.
The Ethiopian Ministry transmitted condolences to family members and colleagues from the diplomat, and announced that it will soon give details about the funeral. The cause of death was not detailed in the published note.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Hadera Abera and Berhanu Tsegaye, also regretted their death.
For its part, The Embassy of Cuba in Ethiopia expressed in a statement its solidarity with the Government and the Ethiopian peopleremembering the dedication of jijamo to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation in areas such as health, education and science.
For half a century, thousands of young Ethiopians have trained in Cuban and professionals on the island have worked in Ethiopia, which makes this relationship one of the most solid in Africa with Cuba.
