The sweep of mayors at the national level continues and this time it was the turn of the eternal mayor of Nandaime, in the department of Granada, Róger Acevedo, who is being investigated for alleged unauthorized corruption from the central power of the Nicaraguan dictatorship.
According to information circulating on social networks and local information platforms, Acevedo was suspended from his position after an audit carried out by officials of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), which found bad accounts with at least 10 million córdobas.
Together with Acevedo, the secretary of the Municipal Council, Pedro Morales, and the treasurer of the commune, Elmer Chavarría, were placed in police custody and under investigation.

The Sandinista Róger Antonio Acevedo Chavarría became mayor of Nandaimeña in 2009. In September 2010 he signed the Amparo Appeal that Daniel Ortega filed together with the FSLN councilors of the time before the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) to request the re-election of president and mayors, which was later approved and contributed to burying democracy in Nicaragua and extending power to the Sandinista regime.
For a brief period he was also the financial director of the Municipal Mayor’s Office of Granada between 2013 and 2017.
According to a profile maintained on its official website by the Urnas Abiertas observatory, “it is known that in 2018 he was actively involved in repressive acts, in close relationship with Commissioner General Ramón Avellán, deputy director general of the National Police.
In that same year, it was noted that trucks from the Nandaime Mayor’s Office were made available to mobilize mobs and shock groups.
