“Shocking!” This is how the health authorities of Santa Cruz qualified the number of 5,926 new cases of Covid-19 registered on the penultimate day of 2021. With the new record, the escalation of infections in the Santa Cruz department does not stop.

“There are 5,926 positive cases today, again by far the highest number of cases of the pandemic (…). The number of cases and the easy transmissibility that is occurring in the department are shocking, “said Carlos Hurtado, manager of Epidemiology of the Departmental Health Service (Headquarters) of Santa Cruz.

The authority reported that this Thursday covid cases were detected in 47 municipalities, with the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra being the most affected with 5,118 cases, representing 86% of infections.

This day also laments the death of 17 people, 12 of them without vaccines and two with only one dose. Of the 17 people who lost their lives, nine are women and eight are men. 12 are from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, three from Montero, one from Cuatro Cañadas and one from Saavedra.

Likewise, Hurtado reported that 149 people are hospitalized in intensive care units, of which 109 are connected to a respirator.

“Let’s continue taking care of ourselves, tomorrow is the last day of the year, let’s leave the festivities, avoid going to mass places, do not expose ourselves and, given the evidence of signs or symptoms, we go to a doctor and have a sample taken, to be able to confirm or rule out the disease and take the measures accordingly ”, reflected the authority.
