The Equality Foundation, the sexual diversity organization created in 2020 by the former president of the CHA, Pedro Paradiso Sottile, inaugurated this Thursday its “César Cigliutti” headquarters in downtown Buenos Aires, with an emotional ceremony that included the discovery of a mural with the portrait of the historic activist who died in 2020.
“For César, the family was the LGTIBQ+ community and taking up that legacy of community, love and pride is that we inaugurate this headquarters designed to be the home of all those who share our ideals, dreams and convictions,” Pedro Paradiso Sottile told Télam. President of Fundación Igualdad, after the ribbon-cutting at the premises on Calle Perú 263.
With 300 square meters and located in front of the Manzana de las Luces, the headquarters of Fundación Igualdad is conceived as a space for militancy, work, training, reading, dissertations, exhibitions, festivals and projections, but also to be used by “other organizations friends and allies who do not have their own premises and need or request it” to develop an activity.
The Equality Foundation was born in 2020 as a space for reflection on sexual diversity and human rights, which recognizes in the articulation and intersectionality basic tools to face the problems faced by the LGBTIQ+ community
“Having our headquarters in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires, a few blocks from the Plaza de Mayo, the Casa Rosada and the Buenos Aires Legislature represents for us a political act of visibility, commitment and pride,” he added.
On the other hand, Paradiso highlighted the figure of César Cigliutti, after whom the Foundation’s headquarters are named, who “has been one of the most emblematic, recognized and important militants of our community, but also of democracy in Argentina.”
“Being able to discover César’s mural and inaugurate a venue with his name is an act of love, recognition and reparation for a person who gave a lot to the community with wonderful humility, integrity and conviction,” he concluded.
The inauguration was attended by Buenos Aires legislator Gabriela Alegre; former national deputy Diana Conti; Norma Castillo, member of the first couple of women to marry, and Gabriel Gersbach, partner of the prefect Octavio Romero, murdered in 2011 before getting married
