The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Paíno Henríquez, announced a plan for the recovery of the northeast sector of the Valle Nuevo National Park, after receiving complaints about the opening of some esplanades with heavy equipment for construction, possibly for subdivisions.
During his first visit to this protected area, the new Minister of the Environment, Paíno Henríquez, announced the plan that will be carried out specifically in the area of Loma de Blanco and Monseñor Nouel.
“We are verifying some of the complaints that have been made regarding interventions in protected areas and initiating a recovery plan for all these areas. And as we promised from day one, maintaining and protecting our protected areas at the national level will be a priority,” he said.
The minister said that Valle Nuevo National Park must be preserved not only for its beauty and aesthetic value, but because it protects the upper Yuna basin, the second most important water source in the Dominican Republic: “In addition, we have a series of hydroelectric plants along this entire stretch of the Yuna, which guarantees a source of renewable electricity generation that is very important in these times.”
In another area, the Minister of the Environment also visited the Ozama and Isabela river basins with the aim of improving the conditions of the Mirador Manantiales del Cachón de la Rubia Park and the Puya de Arroyo Hondo ravine.
In this regard, he said that one of the priorities of his administration is to lay the foundations for the long-term conservation of these spaces by promoting sustainable development in harmony with the environment.
