Barahona.- He Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources informed that it keeps control of the Forest fire registered in the La Ciénaga municipality, Barahona province, place where liquidation works also began in the upper part of that area.
Gerónimo Abreu, in charge of the entity’s National Fire Management and Management Program, said that forest firefighters from the La Vega and Pedernales provinces are providing support on the spot.
Abreu said that another incident occurred on the banks of the Bahoruco River, where the Environment is also actively working to quell it.
The person in charge of the National Fire Management and Management Program added that the forestry personnel from Barahona are in the Santa Elena area, liquidating intentional burning points to clean up the land.
Abreu reminded the general public, especially those who work the land, to avoid burning in wooded areas.
Environment pointed out that forest fires, which cause damage to flora, fauna and the environment in general, historically have a higher incidence in the country from mid-January to the end of April, and from June to early September.
It is recalled that a commission of forest firefighters received training to continue technical cooperation with the Military Fire Department of Brasilia, Brazil, and thus reinforce the work carried out in the country as part of the commitment of the Minister of the Environment, Miguel Ceara Hatton , to strengthen and streamline the work of some 300 men who watch over the protection of the forests.
The entity in charge of caring for the environment reiterated that it continues to ensure, in addition, the protection of the country’s forests, with the purpose of preventing such accidents from continuing to occur.
