This Monday marked the two years since the death of the Interior Minister and white leader Jorge Larrañaga, who died on May 22, 2021. As a result of this date, the eldest son of the white leader, Jorge Larrañaga Vidal, led an emotional tribute in the Paysandú Departmental Board in memory of his father.
“Two years ago my life changed forever. First was the shock of not wanting to believe what was happeningthen came the anger, then the deepest sadnessand today remains emotion in the memory of each moment lived with him”, said Larrañaga Vidal, 34, who settled in Paysandú and leads his own group within the Alianza Nacional, which recently made official its support for Laura Raffo’s candidacy.
Larrañaga Vidal told the Departmental Board that the militants approached him to thank him for his father’s work as mayor of Paysandú. “And that not only makes up for the hours he spent away from us, but they are a caress to the soul that also make one proud,” said the leader.
“Beyond that Today I don’t miss political Larrañaga but Larrañaga fatherwe wanted with my colleagues to honor him through what he left in the department,” concluded the son of the former Sanducero mayor.

In addition to this tribute in Paysandú, the department where he was born and began his political activism, the National Party published a video on its social media accounts to remember the former white presidential candidate in 2004.

Friends of Larrañaga and even classmates at school were part of the tribute. Front-line political leaders of the ruling party remembered him through the social network Twitter.
For example, Vice President Beatriz Argimón, Herrerismo leader Laura Raffo, former number three of the Ministry of the Interior Luis Calabria, former director of Security and Coexistence Santiago González and the current president of Antel Gabriel Gurméndez.
