The Electoral Court sanctions a group of media and individuals for gender violence

For incurring in serious conduct related to political violence based on gender, the specialized chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF) sanctioned a group of media outlets and individuals for disclosing comments rude and disrespectful towards Arlen Moreno Maciel.

The attacks occurred during last year’s electoral contest, when she was a Labor Party candidate for a federal deputation, based in Baja California Sur. According to the search for journalistic notes to discredit Moreno, the communicators alluded to his appearance in a men’s magazine.

For now, they will be registered in the catalog of sanctioned subjects of this specialized room and in the INE national registry of people punished in political matters on the basis of gender.

It was also agreed to give a hearing to different ministerial and administrative instances.

Approved unanimously, the proposed resolution reads: in the case, political violence based on gender against the complainant by the Multimedia Communication Bureau SA de CV, Erik Iván Murillo Mendoza, Ángel Piedra Villegas, Perla Cota Galindo, Metrópoli Digital Media Mx SA de CV, Vicente Gerardo Zúñiga Pacheco, Isis Edith García García, Alejandra Fernández Arreola and Diego Alejandro Soto Granados.
