The resolution confirms that voters must elect both the candidates for mayor and those for mayor within the same motto.
The appeal, presented at the beginning of January, challenged articles of the electoral regulations that, according to the parties, restrict the freedom of citizens by not allowing them to choose representatives of different slogans for the different levels of government. Given the rejection, Colorado deputy Felipe Schipani expressed that he regrets the decision of the Electoral Court, describing it as “a detriment to the freedom of citizens when choosing their representatives.”
In addition, Schipani announced that work is already underway on a bill to enable cross-voting in future instances. This project will be presented at the beginning of the next Legislature, with a scheduled date for February 15.
The cross-vote would allow citizens to elect a candidate for mayor from one party and a mayor from another, something that is currently not allowed by current regulations.
