This Friday, April 7, the second day of the eighth version of the Fish Fair in the municipality of Yapacaní. The event evidenced that the region has become one of the main centers of fish farming in the country.
The event was held in the main square of that municipality, where 27 stalls selling cooked fish and another 15 selling raw fish were installed. In addition to marketing the different varieties of fish, there were ‘fish eaters’ contests, choosing the best stand and the biggest fish.
Productive development director Freddy Silva reported that last year about 30 tons were sold of fish and they hope that this amount will be exceeded this year
“We have state-of-the-art machinery for deboning fish and for making hamburgers, we are looking for trade fish nationally“, reported Román Jerez, administrative manager of the new venture, which launched five products that are already in supermarkets in Santa Cruz, La Paz and Tarija.
Yapacaní has more than 500 fish farmers producing more than 5 million tons of fish, between tambaqui, pacú and tilapia. Production is focused on the northern strip, integrated north, central zone and Puerto Grether whose market is in Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, La Paz and Tarija.
This production has led to the search for the construction of a cfish complex which will cost Bs 86 million Investment that is expected to be confirmed by President Luis Arce through a decree.
