The effects of winter continue in Risaralda: public calamity remains

The department will allocate more than $20,000 million pesos to address at least 12 critical points.

Given the persistence of the second season of rains in Risaraldawhich has already left hundreds of emergencies in the 14 municipalities of the department, In the last hours, the Government of Risaralda, through the Departmental Coordination for Disaster Risk Management (CDGRD), made the decision to extend for at least six months the declaration of public calamity.

Likewise, the Government of Risaralda reported that this decision was adopted in order to maintain attention to the effects that have been registered in recent months and also to be able to execute more than $20,000 million pesos in works in at least 12 critical points in the territory.

Cundinamarca Diana Carolina Ramírez Laverde, Departmental Coordinator for Disaster Risk Management, warned that at least several municipalities report alert for the possibility of landslides and floods, while some of the rivers that cross the territory are under surveillance due to the risk of sudden floods, which requires an immediate and coordinated response to the growing risk.

“In the last few hours, the Institute of Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) issued a report in which it warns that 11 municipalities of Risaralda present alert levels due to the possible occurrence of landslides.

For example, the municipalities of Belén de Umbría, Pereira and Santa Rosa de Cabal are on red alert due to possible mass movements; They are on orange alert Dosquebradas, La Virginia, Marsella and Pueblo Rico; and on yellow alert, are Apía, Balboa, La Celia and Santuario”explained Ramírez Laverde.

With this extended decree, the departmental government reinforces meteorological monitoring, intervention in road infrastructure and the mobilization of resources to mitigate the impact of the rains, while insisting on citizen collaboration to avoid victims and further damage.
