They beat the Lions 6-2 with a home run by Rodríguez. The Stars leave the Tigers on the field
The Cibaeñas Eagles and the Eastern Stars came out victorious last night during the rescheduled doubleheader due to rain by defeating the Leones del Esgido and Tigres del Licey in matches held at the Cibao Stadium, in Santiago, and Tetelo Vargas, in San Pedro de Macorís, respectively.
Both wins bring the two teams from the interior closer in the standings, which the Tigers still dominate with a 7-3 record. In the case of the Eagles (6-3) they are placed at one game, while the Orientals (5-5), at two.
Ronny Rodríguez hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead the Eagles to victory 6-2.
The bats of the Cibaeño team began to sound in the second inning with two runs.
The first was the product of a double by Deivy Grullón to right field, while the second was produced by a grounder by Ronny Rodríguez’s siore.
In the third episode, the scarlets linked their first round. Peter O’Brien singled to left field and Alex De Goti scored, while Aderlin Rodriguez was thrown out as he tried to anchor third base.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the homeowners increased their lead on Ronny Rodriguez’s two-run homer to left field.
The Lions got their second of the night in the sixth with a hit by Engel Beltré down the left field. In the eighth, the Eagles sealed the victory with two more rounds, one for a wild pitch and another for a pass ball.
Tena commanded the eastern
In San Pedro de Macorís, José Tena hit a double in the tenth inning to leave Tigres del Licey on the field with a score of 3-2 during a match held at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium.
With the game tied at two runs apiece and two outs, Matthew Batten singled to center field off reliever Yaya Chentouf. Immediately afterwards, Tena hit the double to left field that Jeisson Rosario could not control, an action that Batten took advantage of to score the run from first base that left the Blues lying on the field, a team that stopped a three-game winning streak.
The match corresponded to the one suspended this Tuesday due to rain at Tetelo Vargas, where the Stars now compile a 4-1 record.
Newcomer Elehuris Montero tied the game 2-2 in the ninth inning after one out against Licey closer Jairo Asencio as a result of a home run in a 0-2 count.
The victory went to Ronel Blanco (1-0), while the setback fell to Yaya Chentouf (1-1).
After the match, the pachyderms registered a 5-5 mark, two games behind the first place, which is occupied by the Tigres del Licey (7-3).
