The day that many businesses and clients waited finally arrived, and both some took advantage of it, according to what circumstances allowed. The Black Friday o Black Friday today generated great commercial movement in various parts of the city.

The first reports – issued in the middle of the morning – from store managers realized that the “hot bread” or the most sought after and sold were household appliances and devices such as televisions and minicomponents. As the day progressed, people were incorporating other items into their purchases.

Especially the large establishments of Greater Santo Domingo began their attempts early to benefit from the sales that generally rise with the so-called Black Friday. And for this, they had a “war of ads” through social networks and other channels about the special or low prices they would have for the occasion. Some “specials” to which the Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor) also “took an eye”, to prevent customers from passing a “hoax”, in the sense that they were informed about some offers that would not really be available.

In Plaza Duarte (Carrefour), in Radio Centro, in Ochoa, in Almacenes Unidos, in Jumbo and La Sirena, among other shopping centers, there was a significant attendance of customers and some of them found it necessary to extend the hours of closing. It usually happens around this date.

The last Friday in November, after “Thanksgiving Day” in the United States, is a date celebrated around the world as it is considered the official start of the Christmas shopping season. In the Dominican case, Black Friday was incorporated (commercially speaking) more or less from the year 2012 onwards.

According to studies carried out, Black Friday had usually been the day with the highest commercial movement of the whole year, from 2005 to 2019 in the US In 2020 this was limited by the covid-19 pandemic. Thanks to the fact that in 2021 the level of openness in the Dominican Republic is broader than in 2020, when there was a curfew and other restrictions, it is expected that when performing the “cash register check”, the figures will yield better results than in the previous version of Black Friday.

The director of Pro Consumidor, Eddy Alcántara, visited the main shopping malls of Greater Santo Domingo yesterday to verify that the establishments were complying with what they offered.

He said that the objective was to monitor the behavior of commercial activities by the quantities of offers that are made and verify that the establishments comply with their obligations towards consumers, as established by Law 358-05.

Meanwhile, the National Police ordered an increase in preventive patrolling and intelligence work in all commercial arteries of the country, reported the agency’s spokesman, Colonel Diego Pesqueira. “Everything has flowed smoothly,” said the superior officer.
