The Dry Tortugas National Park is closed due to the flow of rafters

The United States National Park Service announced that Dry Tortugas National Park, south of Key West, Florida, will be closed to the public on January 2, and until further notice, due to the arrival of some three hundred rafters

“Like other parts of the Florida Keys, the park has recently seen an increase in people arriving from Cuba,” officials said in a statement.

Park responders give them food, water and basic medical care until the Department of Homeland Security arrives and “takes the initiative,” they said.

US Coast Guard intercepted more than 4,000 Cuban rafters between October and December

At least five Cuban expeditions managed to land on the Florida coast between December 30 and 31, 2022, a Border Patrol official reported.

Since October 1, 2022, the Coast Guard has intercepted more than 4,000 Cubans trying to emigrate irregularly to the United States.
