Research by hydrocarbons They confirm the probable existence of 543 million barrels of oil in four basins of the country, of which around 15%, equivalent to 74.3 million, can be extracted or recovered.
This is revealed by the third executive report “Volumetric estimation of oil in the Azuca, San Juan, Cibao and Enriquillo basins”, carried out by the Dominican Petroleum Refinery (Refidomsa), in collaboration with the Pedro Henriquez Ureña University (UNPHU).
Now with these positive findings, the Dominican authorities hope that international companies or companies with mixed capital with local companies will be interested in carrying out research and drilling to determine the quality of these hydrocarbons and carry out economic studies, including cost-benefit of the extraction of this oil for its commercialization, reported the general manager of RefidomsaYamily Lopez.
The investigation It reveals that in the Azua basin there are 38 million original barrels and 5.7 million recoverable barrels; in the Western Cibao basin 203 million original barrels and 30 million recoverable barrels; in the Eastern Cibao basin 11 million original barrels and 1.6 million recoverable barrels, and in the Enriquillo basin 246 million original barrels and 37 million recoverable barrels.
The coordinator of the research team and deputy director of the Oil and Gas Research and Exploration Unit of RefidomsaGregorio Rosario indicated that this should be the beginning of exploratory campaigns that help verify the findings of hydrocarbon resources identified and estimated in this study.
He stressed that they will open another investigation to take samples of the deposits and explore the quality of these hydrocarbons.
He said that more explorations should be done, perforationsseismic, petrophysical, geochemical tests, among others.
He explained that these investigations are carried out together with international organizations and the Industrial University of Santander in Colombia.
“With this information “Companies may now be interested in exploring and investing, because in the past we had a great deal of uncertainty because we didn’t have numbers. Now these numbers open a window of opportunity for the country,” Rosario said.
The study details that the basin with the best probability of success is Azua, this is the only one that has associated production. Next comes the Western Cibao, with an “intermediate” exploratory opportunity; then the Eastern Cibao is “medium” and Enrique is “low”.
