In a river where chemical and detergent residues have been falling for years, a heavy downpour brought the foam to the surface, covering even the pedestrian bridge, but authorities “don’t know” who is polluting.
News Cundinamarca.
In the Balsillas river in the Los Puentes neighborhood in Mosquera, Cundinamarca, a foam exceeded 4 meters in height and covered even the road and the pedestrian bridge, the problem of contamination of the tributary is not new but it was the intense rains of the last days , the ones that brought the problem to the surface.
The foam began to form, and the bad smells have even made people vomit in the street.
That white element began to come out of the river with the wind and ended up on the roofs, roads and walls of the neighborhood.
People have been recommended not to touch that foam, “it can cause irritation” and even respiratory problems.
According to the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR), this is due to “the large amount of detergents and other chemical substances, mixed with the high loads of organic matter that reach the water source.”
The Mayor’s Office of Mosquera indicated that the municipal treatment plant “is not responsible, we do not throw these chemicals into the river,” but they also point out who or who. And it’s been going on for years.
They warn that “if these discharges into the river continue, the emergency will not cease, so they called on citizens and industries to become aware and avoid the excessive use of detergents and chemicals.”
However, the municipal and environmental authorities are questioned that they have not identified those responsible, “and the due sanctions have not been applied.”
It looks like snow but it is contaminated foam that is affecting the population of #Mosquera ⚠️ Reducing water pollution must be a priority?? It is important that authorities such as @CAR_Cundi keep working to mitigate environmental and social impacts like this. @MinAmbienteCo https://t.co/Izb18BI5b4
