The Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, assured that “It is the second consecutive October that we break records, something truly historic.”

With respect to the pre-pandemic period, the increase was 32% more than in October 2019 “with the arrival of 119,582 more tourists than at that time”added Collado. On that date, a total of 372,205 arrivals were registered, while two years later, in October 2021, 443,016 visitors arrived. That is, 48,771 less than in October of this year.

In the first 10 months of this year, almost 57,000 residents of Peru have traveled to that country.

Of the 6.7 million tourists recorded in the first ten months of the year, just over 5.8 million arrived by plane, 8.7% more than in the same period of 2019. In addition, almost 900,000 did so by sea, around 64,000 more than in same period of 2019 (88,178 in October, 36% more than in the same month of 2019), which confirms the recovery of the cruise industry, which also received a strong impact from the pandemic.

This tourist activity has meant an important income of foreign currency for the Caribbean country. “In the first 10 months of this year the arrival of visitors has generated 7,278 million dollars for our economy”Collado explained. In October, the contribution was 517 million dollars and by the end of 2022 the Ministry expects that revenues from tourism will exceed 8,000 million.
