The Dominican Republic generates 13,349 tons of solid waste: 8.4% is plastic

República Dominicana genera 13,349 toneladas de residuos sólidos: 8.4 % son plásticos

Santo Domingo.-The growth of solid waste urban waste in the Dominican Republic has already reached 13,349 tons per day in 2025, of which 8.4% are plastics.

The information was released by the Minister of the Environment, Paino Henriquezand the representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Ana Maria Diazwho together with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the “Plastic Reboot” project in order to reduce this scourge.

“As an island nation, our prosperity is closely linked to the health of our land and our seas. This project not only seeks to clean, but to redesign the way we produce, consume and recover plastics, guaranteeing the survival of our natural heritage for future generations,” highlighted Minister Paíno Henríquez.

The project has a five-year execution, with measurable goals where it is expected to avoid the generation of 11,158 metric tons of plastics and reduce more than 24,000 tons of CO2.
