The director of the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital is dismissed for irregularities

Destituyen al director del Hospital Salvador B. Gautier por irregularidades

Santo Domingo.– The director of the Dr. Salvador Bienvenido Gautier Hospital, Armando José Holguín Núñez, was dismissed by the director of the National Health Service (SNS), Julio Landrón, after complaints related to irregularities in services, deficiencies in infrastructure and failures in the security of the healthcare center.

The decision was made after multiple signs on hospital management, including stay of patients in emergency areas despite the existence of available beds, as well as the restriction on access to intensive care units.

During a hospital visit, Landrón reported that in the next few hours a new director will be appointed along with a management teamwith the aim of guaranteeing improvements in cleanliness, hygiene and adequate circulation of beds, in order to ensure timely and dignified care for patients.

“Today, we are also removing the director here and in the next few hours we are going to place another director with his team in order to also be able to guarantee the cleanliness, hygiene and circulation of beds for each of the different patients we have,” said Landrón.

The head of the SNS maintained that The lack of resources cannot be an excuse to fail to comply with the established protocols for the monitoring, transfer and management of patients within health centers, highlighting the need for each area to operate in accordance with care standards.

Likewise, he reiterated that failures that compromise medical care will not be allowed and recalled that The Salvador B. Gautier Hospital has historically been a national benchmark in professional services and traininghaving more than 30 specialties and having contributed to the preparation of generations of doctors since its foundation in the 1950s.

In that sense, he explained that emergency services must operate more efficientlyestablishing that patients must be evaluated within a period of two to three hours to determine whether they are discharged or admitted. If there are no beds available, he indicated that a referral system must be activated to other hospitals of the same level within the public network.

As part of the corrective actions, The SNS is working on the design of a circuit that will allow the availability of beds in the different health centers to be identified in real time.with the purpose of optimizing hospital care and reducing the saturation of services.

Security team disconnected

During the supervision of the hospital, Landrón also ordered the dismissal of the entire security team, including the assigned colonel, after verifying repeated absences and a limited presence of the personnel on duty.

The measure comes after the Dominican Medical College denounced a crisis of insecurity in the health center, following the assault that occurred on February 2 against a resident doctor while she was evaluating a patient.
