The director of the CIA meets with the interim president of Venezuela to "deliver US message"

The director of the INCJohn Ratcliffe, met in Caracas with the interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguezreported this Friday the New York Timesciting a US official.

Reuters could not immediately verify the report of the meeting, which the Times said took place on Thursday. The White House did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Ratcliffe met with Rodríguez at the direction of the US president, donald trump“to deliver the message that the United States expects a better working relationship,” the report said.

They discussed intelligence cooperation, economic stability and the need to ensure that Venezuela is no longer a “safe haven for America’s adversaries, especially drug dealers“added the report.

During her tenure as Venezuela’s vice president, Rodríguez was involved in negotiations with a U.S. special envoy, Richard Grenell, along with other officials, over an agreement for now-deposed former President Maduro to voluntarily relinquish power, the newspaper said.

Rodríguez has previously criticized the Trump administration for “kidnapping” Maduro and has asked for his return. However, Washington has said it is favorable as interim leader to preserve stability.
