A letter signed by the directives of the parties of Chile Vamos, Francisco Chahuán (RN), Javier Macaya (UDI), and Luz Poblete (Evópoli) spread by newspapers and social networks, consigns ten commitments of the center-right for a future fundamental letter in the event that the Rejection option wins.
Among the different points is the commitment to maintain the Senate, decentralization and constitutional recognition of the original peoples, but not plurinationality.
“The right-wing parties, within their campaign for rejection, are committed to carrying out a series of reforms in order to improve the current Constitution. As a Christian Democrat, we do not believe it (…). People cannot be naive and believe that they are going to comply with this intention to make profound changes to the Constitution,” said the president of the Christian Democracy and mayor of La Granja, Felipe Delpín, on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Senator Matías Walker (DC), valued the commitment of Chile Vamos and invited the center-right parties to support the constitutional reform project to lower the quorum “because what it allows is to open the way in line with what President Lagos and President Frei have proposed to generate a new Constitution, a Constitution that unites all Chileans, and not that divides us, as is unfortunately the Convention’s proposal”.
The different perspectives reflected in the words of Mayor Delpín and Senator Walker show the differences of opinion within the party regarding the proposed Magna Carta that will be voted on September 4.
