Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGCP) and the National Association of Aggregate Industries and Producers of the Dominican Republic (ANIPARD) signed an inter-institutional collaboration agreement that seeks to guarantee the sustainability of the procurement of materials from the aggregates and aggregates sector for public works constructions.
The agreement, signed between the general director of the DGCP, Carlos Pimentel, and the president of Anipard Carlos Constanza, seeks that all contractors awarded works by the State use materials that comply with the environmental legal regulations of the Dominican State.
“Today we take a momentous step to promote sustainability within the contracting system, ensuring that the entire value chain of the construction sector complies with the provisions, principles and responsible practices within the non-metallic mining sector,” said Pimentel during the signing act.
The director of the DGCP announced that one of the first actions framed in the work plan consists of inserting in the specifications for works the provisions that guarantee compliance with the regulations from the basis of contracting. He added that another of the planned actions consists of coordination with the aggregates industry and the leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to trace the route that will guarantee compliance with the objectives of this agreement. For his part, Carlos Constanza highlighted that “this agreement represents a significant step towards the consolidation of a sustainable aggregates sector, in which producers, communities and the State work together to guarantee a positive impact on the economy and the environment.” ».
Likewise, he stated that this agreement reflects a commitment to the sustainability of natural resources, guaranteeing that all aggregates used in the construction of public works have the proper environmental permits, which will contribute to stopping their illegal extraction from rivers. The key points of the agreement include the promotion of responsible and sustainable acquisition of aggregates by the State and the promotion of quality standards and regulatory compliance in the sector. The agreement will allow both institutions to work together in the implementation of projects and activities aimed at the transformation and innovation of the sector, promoting sustainability and good practices.
With this initiative, the DGCP and ANIPARD seek to lay the foundations for responsible non-metallic mining, which contributes significantly to the economic development of the Dominican Republic while ensuring respect for the environment and the well-being of the communities.
