The Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán, affirmed this Friday that the government of Mauricio Macri left the country “with a crushing debt load”, and that a renegotiation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was sought “without undermining the possibilities of development “, according to what he stated at a press conference at the Palacio de Hacienda together with the chief of staff, Juan Manzur.

“There is not going to be any change in the exchange rate,” said Guzmán, explaining the details of the agreement with the IMF.

The Economy Minister maintained that the agreement reached will allow Argentina “to have a moderately expansive role”, with goals of gradually reducing the primary deficit.

For 2022, the primary deficit was established at 2.5%, for 2023 at 1.9% and for 2024 at 0.9% of the Gross Domestic Product, Guzmán reported during the press conference at the Palacio de Hacienda microcinema .

Guzmán announced a “gradual and decisive” reduction in the Central Bank’s (BCRA) assistance to the National Treasury. A structure of positive real interest rates and progress in the reconstruction of the public debt in local currency were also agreed upon.

On the other hand, Guzmán affirmed that it was agreed with the IMF to advance in a comprehensive approach to inflation, taking into account that it is “a multi-causal phenomenon.”
