The designer Félix Beltrán, considered the father of the Cuban poster, dies

MADRID, Spain.- The renowned Cuban designer Félix Beltrán Concepción passed away this Wednesday, at the age of 84, in Mexico, a country where he had lived since the 1980s.

Beltrán, whose work is recognized in a large part of the world, is one of the great references of the design Latin American chart; as well as he is considered the father of the Cuban cartel.

Born on June 23, 1938 in Havana, he studied graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York and studied painting at the American School of Art.

The School of Design of the National Institute of Fine Arts, when announcing the news through Twitter, pointed out: “Teacher of countless generations of Graphic Design in this school. We remember his legacy and send condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

During his career, Félix Beltrán received three Honoris Causa Doctorates and more than 140 awards at various events.

During his years in Cuba, he taught Graphic Design classes at the Higher Institute of Industrial Design (ISDi) (1980-1982) and at the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) (1976-1982), in Havana.

In Mexico he was curator of the International Graphic Archive at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana and was a member of the Advisory Council of the Faculty of Design of the Universidad Anáhuac México and an Honorary Member of the Mexican Academy of Design.

Among his personal exhibitions are “Symbols of Félix Beltrán” (1971), at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana; “Deconstructive Paintings by Félix Beltrán”, exhibited in various galleries in Mexico City; and “Exhibition Hall Ruski Avenue”, in Sofia, Bulgaria.

His work is part of permanent exhibitions in countries such as France, Denmark, Chile, Russia and the United States.
