Jaime Gazmuriappointed on May 25 by the Government of President Gabriel Boric as the Ambassador of Chile in Venezuela, arrived in the country this Saturday through the Simón Bolívar International Airport, to assume the position that had been vacant since 2018.
A Press release The Foreign Ministry reports that Gazmuri is a 79-year-old politician who is a member of the Socialist Party and served as a senator for more than 20 years, between 1990 and 2010.
In addition, between 2014 and 2018, during the second term of Michelle Bachelet, he served as the Ambassador of Chile in Brazil. He also held important positions during the administration of former President Sebastián Piñera.
The diplomat has extensive professional experience as a consultant to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Organization of American States (OAS).
Before being appointed as the new Ambassador of Chile in VenezuelaGazmuri was serving as Minister of the Election Qualifying Court (Tricel) for the period 2020-2024.
The appointment of the diplomat and his arrival in the country mark the strengthening of relations between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Yván Gil recently met with Chile’s Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Alex Wetzig. At the meeting, they expressed their commitment to increase diplomatic and consular work, as part of the reconstruction of relations between Venezuela and Chile.
