The deputy director of Police of the Ministry of the Interior, Héctor Ferreira, was summoned to testify by the prosecutor Gabriela Fossati, who coordinates the investigation into the mega-scandal of false passports of the former custodian of Luis Lacalle Pou, Alejandro Astesiano.
On Friday, Ferreira was summoned to testify and went together with another police officer, but in the end they did not give a statement on the recommendation of their lawyer, arguing that Fossati did not let them access the investigation folder, the newspaper said. The Observer citing government sources.
The prosecutor said in a press conference that she requested information from the Ministry of the Interior to verify if the behavior of Ferreira, as well as that of another official who attended on Friday (who also works for the National Police Directorate) were legal.
At Friday’s hearing, Fossati made reference to messages in which President Lacalle’s former custodian asks for favors from police officials, whose names are not yet known. In one of these he asked: “Motorcycles for the Cohami Complex soccer club, on Millán and Lecocq avenues” because we have “a stage at 6:00 p.m. and on the other side we have the Echador neighborhood (and the neighbors) who always come to break the balls”. “Can you get some cops or some motorcycles or something? just to be there no more… to make an appearance… so they don’t come to fuck. I do not want to screw you, I do not want to compromise you ”, reads the communications that have been obtained from Astesiano.
Fossati recalled that the accused now worked as a private security officer, apart from his work as head of the presidential guard, so, apparently, in those messages he would be asking for the public force to be used for his private purposes.
