Links with the founder of Peru Libre, Vladimir Cerrondue to the appointment of inexperienced officials in the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the social conflict in Las Bambas (Apurímac) and the censorship promoted by a sector of Congress backed even by sectors of the left made the departure of the minister Carlos Palacios be unavoidable.
President peter castle sworn in this Sunday as new Minister of Energy and Mines to Alexandra Herrera Jarawho will replace Palacios Pérez in office.
On May 20, the congressman from Avanza País Diego Bazan had presented a motion of censure against Carlos Palacios for appointing “people without the necessary experience or technical knowledge and prioritizing party affiliation.”
In this scenario, La República revealed that at least 11 officials appointed to hold senior positions in the aforementioned portfolio had their past in Free Peru as members and founders of the political party.
Although the initiative had the support of 34 congressmen from The Country Advances, Popular Force and Popular Renewal; other benches were also in favor of removing Palacios from office.
This medium spoke with representatives of the Alianza para el Progreso, Somos Perú and the new Magisterial Bloc of National Coordination, who did not hesitate to support Congressman Bazán’s proposal.

The APP spokesman, Eduardo Salhuana, indicated that he did support the censorship promoted by his colleague against the now former minister.
“Not only the minister would have resigned, but the entire cabinet of Aníbal Torres is weakened and exhausted. Most likely, if there had been censorship, the APP bench would support it,” said Salhuana, who did not hesitate to question Palacios about the social crisis in Las Bambas.
“What happens in Las Bambas is a negligence of the Government. How is the Executive not going to have strategies to deal with social conflict? Meanwhile, economic losses continue. The premier, Torres, cannot go with that attitude of confronting the protesters”, indicated the APEPist.

Congresswoman Katy Ugarte from the Bloc Magisterial de Concertación Nacional also supported Palacios’ departure, despite being a group close to Pedro Castillo.
“The minister had to resign and not wait for Congress to censure him (…). There are many irregularities in the Energy and Mines sector, such as what is happening in the protests in Cusco and Apurímac. For this reason, he did support censorship, ”explained Ugarte, hours before changes in the ministerial cabinet were announced.
The alternate spokesperson for Somos Perú, Wilmar Elera, was another of the congressmen who, like his fellow legislators, supported censorship.
