The departmental director of Health of Maldonado, Neris García, died this Saturday after being hospitalized for health problems, sources informed The Observer. The doctor had been in office since March 9, 2020, a few hours before Uruguay confirmed the first cases of coronavirus in the country.
The Ministry of Public Health issued a statement this Saturday in which it greets his family and friends “at this sad moment and highlights the noble work of the departmental director for his outstanding performance in the pandemic and in the National Plan for vaccination against covid- 19”.

Next Monday, November 14, the Departmental Directorate of Maldonado will remain closed due to mourning, the portfolio reported.
García, a member of the National Party’s list 20, succeeded the Front Ampist Mary Araújo in office. According to Maldonado Noticias then, she worked until then in the intensive care area of the local hospital.
