The death toll rose to 232 due to the heavy rain on February 15 in Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro. According to the Civil Police, the victims are 138 women, 94 men and 44 minors. According to the city hall, so far, 210 victims of the rain have been buried in the Cemitério do Centro.
This Wednesday (2), the military of the Fire Department work in the locations of Morro da Oficina, Chácara Flora and along the Quitandinha River, locations where they are looking for five missing persons.
So far, 1,117 people are in shelters. The reception of the affected population is distributed in support points of the city hall, which are public schools, today with 955 people, and places structured voluntarily by the communities, in churches, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other entities, which have 162 sheltered. .
In all, there are 34 places, where people receive food, support for personal hygiene, social assistance, health, psychologists, in addition to support from community agents and the Civil Defense.
According to the prefecture, all people who needed to resort to support points because they lost their homes will be entitled to social rent in the amount of R$ 1 thousand. Homeless people have priority and have already been registered by municipal teams.
