The latest official balances of the authorities of Turkey and Syria, regarding the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook the border between the two countries, rose to more than 5,000 deaths; thousands of injured and extensive material damage.
Fuad Otaky, Vice President of Turkey, indicated in his most recent assessment that the telluric movement left 3,419 people dead and more than 20,500 injured in that territory, while the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) estimates that more than 6,200 buildings were destroyed. collapsed by natural event.
At least 7,800 people have been rescued from the rubble of the buildings, while 25,000 people, including soldiers and volunteers, are working to search for and rescue more survivors, who must also struggle with the cold, rain and snowfall.
Otaky indicated that more than 300,000 victims of the earthquakes were housed in university centers, shelters and student residences.
On the other hand, the Syrian Ministry of Health indicated that there are 812 deaths and 1,449 wounded in the provinces of Aleppo, Hama, Latakia, Tartus and the areas of Idlib, while balance sheets from the Syrian Civil Defense highlighted that in the territories taken by the rebels recorded 790 deaths and more than 2,200 wounded.
During Monday, up to 185 aftershocks were registered, in addition to the two main shocks: one of 7.8 in the middle of the night (04H17 local) and the other of magnitude 7.5 at noon. Aftershocks continued into the early hours of Tuesday. The strongest, of magnitude 5.5, occurred at 6:13 local time (3:13 GMT) 9 km southeast of Gölbasi (south).

International aid has begun to arrive in Turkey and Syria. The first responders arrived on Turkish territory from France and Qatar, while the US began preparing two detachments of search and rescue experts to dispatch them to the Kahramanmaras region.
China announced on Tuesday the shipment of aid of 6.9 million dollars, which will include specialized teams for relief in urban environments, medical equipment and emergency supplies, according to a Beijing state media. In total, 45 countries have offered to send aid.
Planes with humanitarian aid have also arrived in Syria. Iraq made a first shipment that arrived at Damascus International Airport with 70 tons of food, medicine and blankets. Iran also did the same with a first shipment of 45 tons of food, blankets, tents, medicines and other materials.
In the case of Syria, the request for help was heard by its Russian ally, which promised relief teams “in the next few hours”, in addition to 300 Russian soldiers who are already in place to help with the rescue.
The United Nations Organization (UN) insisted that the aid must reach “all Syrians throughout the territory”, also in the part that is not under government control.
