“Between the 22 dead, one is a Chilean citizen, already confirmed by the competent authorities. We also have 16 injured. Among the 16 injured, five are of Chilean nationality. Among them we have two minors, one 2 and (another) 9 years old, and 11 are Bolivians. Among them we also have three minors, between 9 and 15 years old,” Cortez told the media.
He added that the The wounded were taken to the hospital in Patacamaya, and others were sent to the Corazón de Jesús Hospital in El Alto.
The traffic incident
An international passenger transport bus, heading to Iquique (Chile), collided with a green Volvo truck, which was entering Patacamaya.
“The possible cause of the accident would be a prohibited maneuver, a maneuver of overtaking, possibly (carried out) by the truck. And also him speeding of both vehicles. But this has to be determined in the investigation by the Transit Operations Agency,” Cortez said.
On the other hand, he stated that there was “opposition to police work”, and indicated that the truck did not have license plates, so it is presumed that it is an undocumented vehicle, which would also be transporting merchandise, possibly smuggled.
“These people have opposed, they have burned the merchandise (…)”, the police authority said.
