The deadline to declare income is over: how many Colombians complied?

The National Tax and Customs Directorate (Dian) officially closed the due date calendar for the income tax return of natural persons for the taxable year 2024, with results positive both in terms of collection and in technological management and citizen service.

According to the entity, more than 6.5 million taxpayers fulfilled their obligation between August 12 and October 24, 2025, setting a new record in participation. Of this total, 763,036 people declared for the first time, reflecting sustained progress in the formalization and culture of tax compliance in the country.

A collection of more than $23 billion

During the maturity period, Dian reported a total collection of $23.6 billionof which $5.7 billion corresponded to the tax payable and $17.9 billion to advances and withholdings made throughout the year.

According to the entity, these results consolidate a positive trend of voluntary compliance, driven by digital simplification mechanisms, educational campaigns and support for taxpayers.

“La Dian delivered for the country. We managed to close this process without setbacks, with historic figures and strengthening trust of citizens in public management,” highlighted the general director (e) Carlos Emilio Betancourt.

Based on this, the tax authority highlighted that one of the most relevant achievements of the balance sheet was technological stability throughout the process, since the entity did not register failures in its electronic platforms, thanks to the strengthening of its digital infrastructure and the execution of load, stress and cybersecurity tests prior to the start of maturities.

“In total, 4,178 attempts at malicious access to the systems were blocked, guaranteeing the protection of taxpayer information. In addition, the use of digital tools grew significantly: the rental microsite registered an 18.5% increase in visits, and its search engine processed nearly 40 million queries,” Dian said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the “Income Help” application was downloaded more than 500,000 times, and allowed thousands of people to fill out their declaration independently.

In its balance sheet on the income tax return, Dian reported that 7.5 million suggested returns were generated, making it easier for taxpayers to complete the process quickly and safely, especially those declaring for the first time.

During the expiration season, the entity had more than 800 officials throughout the country, divided between 540 at face-to-face points and 348 at the Contact Center, to answer questions and resolve concerns.

In total, more than 513,000 citizens were guided and 834,000 transactions were processed. In addition, hours were extended at 54 service points, implementing a multi-channel and personalized strategy, which combined in-person and digital services. “The challenge now is to continue moving towards a model that is increasingly agile, reliable and closer to the citizen,” said Betancourt.

For Dian, this year’s results confirm that the digital transformation of the tax system is bearing fruit. Not only was it possible to maintain the stability of online services, but also to improve the user experience, a key aspect in the entity’s institutional strategy.

With the closing of this calendar, Dian plans to strengthen its pedagogical approach for the next taxable year, promote new technological developments and expand automated services, with the purpose of increasingly More Colombians can fulfill their tax obligations without intermediaries or complications.
