MIAMI, United States. — The ninth installment of the podcast the damnedproduced by CubaNetaddressed the case of the writer María Cristina Garrido, one of the Garrido sisters from Quivicán, protesters on July 11, 2021 (11J) in that municipality in the province of Mayabeque.
Oppositionist Michael Valladares Cala, husband of María Cristina, told the damned the ordeal and the persecution that the demonstrators had to suffer after the 11J protests.
María Cristina and her sister were sentenced to seven and three years in prison. Valladares, director of the Republican Party of Cuba in the province of Pinar del Río, assured that, in the case of the writer, she was accused of the crimes of attack, contempt, resistance, public disorder and organization to commit a crime.
In their presentation before the court, the Garrido sisters denounced the flagrant human rights violations they suffer in prison, a fact that was detailed by Michael Valladares in his intervention in the podcast.
the damned It also addressed the situation of Marta Perdomo, mother of fellow 11J protesters Jorge Martín and Nadir Martín Perdomo, sentenced to eight and six years in prison, respectively.
Perdomo was regulated along with Liset Fonseca, mother of the 11J prisoner Roberto Pérez Fonseca —sentenced to 10 years in prison—, when both were preparing to travel to Europe to develop a work agenda in favor of their children and the political prisoners in the island.
Perdomo and Fonseca had been invited to the old continent by the Cuban Human Rights Observatory (OCDH), a non-governmental organization based in Madrid, Spain.
The ban on leaving the country against mothers was denounced this Tuesday by the European Parliament.
