The Cuban Zeleidy Crespo is awarded the National Dance Prize in the United Kingdom

The Cuban dancer Zeleidy Crespo was awarded the United Kingdom National Dance Award 2023 in the Outstanding Female Performance in Modern Dance category yesterday for her participation in the show 100% Cuban.

Directed by Carlos Acosta, the Acosta Danza group presented this performance in London during the first months of 2022, with the winner as the first figure.

In 2021, Acosta Danza was nominated and won as the best independent company, in the 21st edition of the National Dance Awards, an event organized by the Dance Section of the Critics Circle of the United Kingdom.

Born in Pinar del Río, Crespo began his dance studies in 2001. He began in the Santiago Alfonso company, with which he participated in the works Jazz, Obba Yuru and Maria Antonia, among other.

It is the second time that Acosta Danza has been selected for a British award. In 2021, they were nominated as one of the best independent companies at the National Dance Awards, a category that focuses on groups that produce regular shows in Great Britain and do not receive state subsidy.

The UK National Dance Awards are organized by the Critics Circle Dance Section, which brings together over 60 dance writers and specialists.

They are the only awards given by the body of professional dance critics in the UK.
