The Cuban Yandy Núñez, each day closer to Everest

Mexico City, Mexico.- With his face visibly burned by the low temperatures, the Cuban mountaineer Yandy Nunez He shared progress on his journey to Mount Everest on social networks.

The 33-year-old from Havana published several photographs in which he is seen with the Cuban flag at the top of Lobuche Peak.

Lobuche is a peak located more than six thousand meters above sea level that is located near the Khumbu Glacier. Although it is not a very complex mountain for experts, it does require you to be in good physical shape. This ascent is part of the journey and conditions on the way to Everest that the Cuban must execute.

This is the second time that Yandy steps on the Lobuche Peak East. In 2021 he had already achieved it when he first tried to climb Everest.

However, at that time he had to give up his dream, when he had climbed approximately 8,848 meters up the mountain, because he caught Covid-19 in the middle of his journey and contracted pneumonia.

Two years later, with his personal savings and some donations, the Cuban tries again and brings with him the flags of his homelands: Cuba, where he was born, and Iceland, the country of his wife and son. His dream is to place them on top of the world.

“From the top of Lobuche Peak at 5:30am with an excellent beautiful view all around,” Núñez wrote on his Facebook page. The young man also added that he was “conquering achievements, making dreams come true and creating stories in my life.”

On his route to the highest peak in the world, the habanero explained: “Tomorrow we return to the Everest Base Camp and soon we will be starting the rotations towards the High Camps on Mount Everest.”

To achieve it, would be the first Cuban that reaches the top of this mountain that has an altitude of 8,848 meters above sea level; located on the Asian continent, in the Himalayas.

Núñez left Reykjavik, Iceland, where he has lived since 2015, on April 3, heading to Nepal to begin his ascent from there.

Yandy is, as far as news is known, the first Cuban to climb the 5,642 meters to the top of Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe located in southern Russia near the border with Georgia.
